SpeculativeDesign
Iris is a participatory design workshop designed specifically for secondary school classes.
This project was born out of a deep conviction : designers should no longer seek to devise solutions rooted in commercial ecology, but must instead take a proactive approach by stimulating the collective imagination, in order to raise awareness and demonstrate that other desirable futures are possible. This project is driven by that very aim : to support pupils and help alternative narratives to emerge.

Creating desirable futures through constraints :
With Iris, the designer steps back to let the pupils take the lead and takes on the role of facilitator. As they progress through the stages and via a sprint exercise involving constraints and trade-offs, the pupils construct their stories in groups and share various tasks amongst themselves. Step by step, the stories take shape : they are imagined, written, drawn and narrated. Available online via the Iris platform, the stories are on display and the facilitation guide is available as open source.
